Center Control and Development
Both sides start with their king pawns in the center: e4 for White, e5 for you. Next, White's knight develops to f3, controlling the critical squares d4 and e5 while supporting the center. You mirror this strategy with Nc6, placing your knight on the same influential squares. When White develops the bishop to b5, you immediately respond with a6, attacking it and forcing a decision. This sequence creates a balanced position where piece development mirrors control of the center.
White's Strategic Plan
The bishop on b5 applies pressure to your knight on c6, which defends the e5 pawn—this is White's immediate hook. But White's true plan unfolds slowly. After castling kingside, White will play c3 and d4, building pressure in the center without forcing immediate tactics. White maintains tension rather than pushing for a quick win. Black's Counterplay
